Um, yeah, I think I do, and I think most Indians do not consider themselves white and they would not be considered white in Southwest Virginia. Joe Biden certainly didn't think of them as white when he made his comment about Delaware needing them to run all the 7-11 stores. Oh, but he is no racist, is he?

Indians consider themselves quite "white", particularly those who are Brahmin, or belong to a Jot that's ascended to importance, and who count among their ancestors Aryans from the West (Persia, Bulgaria, etc.)

This gentleman is quite arguably "white".

BTW, the question of "white" didn't come up concerning running 7/11s. That was simply a blast at immigrants from India.

I've known a couple who didn't work at a 7/11 for at least a short while. Used to be India would let you leave the country with no more than $50 in your pockets. This presented some pretty serious problems to anyone immigrating here, or for Indian students.

The solution was to work at a 7/11, or a Greek restaurant.

You could sleep "out back", get cash income at the end of the day, and eat really cheap.

A couple of weeks there and you could complete your travels to go where you were supposed to go.

It was a quite stimulating experience as I understand from people who did it, and they speak highly of the open employment policies of 7/11.

I think Ol'Joe just didn't know how tightly connected 7/11 was to the recent immigrant experience.

Someday there'll be an Indo-Pak American writer of the stature of Isaac Bashevis Singer, and she's going to write about how truly incredible 7/11 was in her life.
