I'm not sure that this is a good thing. I don't like legislation written specifically against a lawful organization, no matter how much we don't like that organization.
What's to stop a Dim Congress from writing laws explicitly punishing conservative groups?
True, but how many conservative groups advocate rights to distribute child porn and let convicted child molesters have free reign without restrictions? They want to fight for the rights of John Evander Couey but not Jessica Lunsford. Jessica was an adorable, God-loving little girl and Couey is an oxygen thief, plain and simple, that buried that precious little girl alive.
These people are evil, plain and simple. I would not only like to see funding cut off, I would like to see this group totally disbanded.
What is lawful about the aclu anymore? It was founded by a communist in the 20s.I dont think it has strayed to far from the inception.
"The bill, H.R. 2679, would deny legal fees and out-of-pocket expenses to be taken from taxpayers and given put into the pockets of groups like the ACLU when they successfully sue against references to God and religion in public settings..."
Wait a minute! The ACLU would remain free to continue their dastardly deeds; only you and I will no longer pay for it! What is wrong with that?
Read the act please!!
It prohibits taxpayer funding of the aclu's activities. The act does not proscribe the organization, it just shoves them away from the taxpayers' trough.
Why should any advocacy group, liberal, conservative, or commie (aclu) be funded by taxpayers because of rigged judicial shakedowns (winked at by stupid / complicit judges)?
"What's to stop a Dim Congress from writing laws explicitly punishing conservative groups?"
When did they ever stop?
All it would do is withdraw your and my tax dollars from funding an anti-american group. It's a way of defunding the left, who live on our tax dollars.
Why should taxpayers fund this or any other similar group?
They would have to actually get it passed. The ACLU has been abusing the taxpayer for years- it's time to rein them in.
This is a huge victory for the American taxpayer; the ACLU will no longer be able to play their game of obtaining federal funding via the awarding of legal fees when they "win" cases.
If you would like them to continue receiving dollars from you, feel free to send the ACLU a donation. They still have the right to exist and to receive voluntary funding, but will no longer receive involuntary funding.
