I was in the sixth Grade in Okeechobee, FL, in the mid-50's. Okeechobee was, and still is, a very small town and had very little to offer in the way of art to appreciate. Our sixth grade teacher, Edgar M. Shaughnessy, made arrangements for us to make a three hour bus ride to Sarasota to visit the Ringling Museum of Art. After we were all off the bus Mr. Shaugnessy called us boys over to a spot behind the bus and told us that we would see pictures and statues of nudes, male and female, in the museum and told us in no uncertain terms what would happen to us if made any, actually he said ANY, comment about them! Sure 'nuff we saw several pictures and statues of nudes, including the 20 foot tall one of David, and not a word was heard. Don't know where you are today, Mr. Shaugnessy, but I sure do thank you for one of the greatest memories of my young life!

Same thing happened in the mid-1970s during a class trip to Ottawa. Before entering the museum our teacher read the riot act to us and there was no problem.

That's the way to handle it. When I was in the 8th grade, our art teacher (a very attractive woman BTW), showed us a series of slides of various art works. Some of the slides showed African carved wooden scuptures depicting women with elongated breasts. I remember being very disappointed at the boorish comments of my fellow male students.
