This has to go down as the worst campaign in history. I have never in 40 years of politics seen so many smears come out in such a short time. I'm frankly stunned by it. Who did George Allen piss off to make them come after him like this? Are the liberals that afraid of him as a presidential candidate? He's a genuinely nice guy who was a great governor and has been a good Senator. What did he do to deserve such smears?
I am not an Allen for President supporter, but I lived in Virginia when he was governor and voted for him for Senator in 2000. I have met him and his lovely wife, Susan, on numerous occasions. I am totally incensed by this unfair attack, and all good people should be.
Hillary.
I think it's because he's a genuine conservative, at least from what I can see. I think that he's vulnerable to the kind of attacks with which liberals hit Reagan and Bush. He's warm and affable and not always the most articulate politician (shades of Bush, not Reagan). He stands on genuine principle, not showy policy wonkism. It's what got both Reagan and Bush re-elected again to the chagrin of liberals who just can't understand it. But I think though they don't get it, they may see it in Allen.
Romney is an interesting contrast. He is clearly intelligent and articulate, but he's not as conservative as Allen. Allen is the kind of successful conservative who has dislodged dems from their throne the last several decades. I believe they are afraid of him and want to damage him now before he comes to the attention of national voters. Just my thoughts.
But wouldn't it have hit the papers? If not, then this should be a dead issue. I can't believe Sabato would say this kind of unverifiable bilge.
Taking down George Allen could cost the Republicans the Senate. Nuff said. The fact that until now he has had, for a fairly conservative Republican, good relations with the Main Stream Media, just goes to prove that no Republican gets good press when the MSM thinks that they can advance their agenda by taking him out.
Are you paying atten Sen. McCain??? No, I didn't think so.
You can probably bet good money that her thighness is behind this. It was reported a few months ago that the candidate she fears the most is George Allen. Likely this is her way of attempting to gut him before he has a chance.
Thanks for that info..............now I know why I know that name.
