where have you been? basic palaeontology have always noted that the preservation of fossil almost *require* some rapid catastrophic event to quickly cover up and therefore preserve the carcass - be it tar pit or falling volcanic ashes or buried in sediment heavy water.

if nothing happened and the carcass just laid there out in the open, it likely would have been scavenged and scattered without a trace remaining.
