As I said on another thread, why should Rangel (or Pelosi) act so surprised that a nutcase would come and say something like this when they have been saying it for YEARS! Rangel, Pelosi and the rest of the dims have created the very atmosphere that makes Chavez comfortable giving the kind of speech that he did. Rangel is just trying to save his political @ss!!!!!!!

1. The Dems have been ridiculously ripping the President for years but
2. When Chavez did it he looked like a childish radical nutjob with no skills in diplomacy or decency so
3. The Dems are trying to distance themselves because they don't want to topple over the loony ledge with him on criticizing Bush. In other words, you're absolutely right - Rangel is trying to save himself politically.
I'd love to consider this as a case of "I can criticize my family but no one else can" but I really, really doubt it.
I think the Republicans should thank the demonRATs for defending the President but also take the time to point out that there is a global media and our enemies have obviously been reading their comments and statements that are not too far off from Chavez's comments btw, and our enemies our obviously taking heart from the Democrat's rhetoric. It proves the point in a dramatic way that words have consequences. If we had shown a united front on war to the world the insurgency would probably be put to bed by now.
