"A lot of younger people who are hired into journalism don't stay that long," Weaver said.

Why stay in a high-pressure field with horrible hours when you're only making on avergage $22,000 a year with a college degree? Most of the other communication fields pay significantly higher with much better work environments.

I would love to be a journalist and be a good one.

But, I ultimately have decided after much anguish to pursue teaching instead.

Amazingly, the pay is higher than journalism, enough to live on...and my probable wife (pretty much unofficially engaged) would get to see me a lot more. It would also not be near as stressful.

With the uncertain future of journalism, it just isn't worth it to me anymore. If not for marriage, it would have been.

But, it is not worth it with a family.

And, I love teaching (am student teaching now). It is a great deal of fun, and I have a passion to see the kids learn.
