This is probably in the 5 percent of violence that cannot be blamed on The Religion of Irony.

Could it be the Thai government sending the military into the streets to head off a muslim riot over this Pope stuff?

AFP: Thai PM's office seized by forces loyal to sacked army chief. That's a coup alright.

19/09/2006 15h51 BANGKOK (AFP) - Thailand's army chief has been sacked and a state of emergency has been declared in Bangkok amid rumours of a coup against the government, Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra was quoted as saying on local television.
Witnesses reported military tanks and heavily armed troops on some streets in the capital, while local television reported that a new army chief has already been appointed.
"He is in charge of solving the problems while the country faces an urgent situation," Thaksin was quoted by television as saying about the new military commander.

Hi All- The Thai are a very friendly, kind, and pro-American society. They are quick to smile, courteous, and the customary and prayer-like "wai" gesture is very endearing and allows people to show mutual respect. I hope the best for Thailand.
