I was able to predict the beginning of Gulf War I to within 45 minutes. But that one was easy - assuming GHWB meant what he said, which he did. I've never come close with any other. There is just so much diplomacy going on, some of it blatant sabre rattling, that you just don't know until it actually starts.
Not coincidentally, BTW, the U.N. ultimatum ran out on the night of a new moon. The initial Apache assault on the Iraqi search radar took place in near total darkness and the initial Stealth assaults that followed, were in near total darkness.
BTW, stealth isn't all that stealthy or invisible, but when back up by massive jamming, it's good enough. Taking our the search radar made good sense, since if it cued the fire control radars, they might have scored a few successes.
