I think these people want the baby because they crave the attention, so it would be pointless to steal it and keep it hidden. Assuming the woman took the baby to raise, and not for something more horrible, she'll have to keep it away from people for years, until the birthmark fades.

I hope they drag her behind a truck when they catch her.
