"This is why if you study Chinese history, it is a progression toward more central control, more tyranny. Each ruling dynasty more despotic and controlling than the previous one."

Sorry, but is this not true of even the US? IRS BATF WACO Ruby Ridge, Separation of Church and State; public schools; out of control judiciary....congress passing laws they don't read...SWAT; no knock raids; War on some drugs; militarizaton of police forces; there is something universal about the progression toward central control, every nation tends toward it. I'm not talking in absolute terms; of course we are freer, but the progression since 1787...

Not even comparable. I'm talking about a long 2500 year progression where despite various revolutions and regime changes, each ruling dynasty has tighter central control, and the ruled are subject to more oppression than the previous one, the Chinese Communist Party is merely the culmination of this 2500 year march toward greater despotism.

I don't even subscribe to your premise about the U.S., for one thing we don't have slavery any more, we allow people who don't own property to vote, we allow women to vote now. Yet, in some respects our freedoms are diminished, but in other respects our freedoms are expanded. I am not convinced on balance it doesn't even out, or perhaps freedom might even come out ahead, over the course of the 240 years of our history.
