It may be that the class won't go any more indepth than the questions a children normally asks around that age. Most schools have a parent preview before any sex ed class so parents can see exactly what will be taught and decide accordingly.

BTW, most schools I know of have abstinence programs starting in middle school - I have no problem with any child seeing those. Not all parents are as involved as they should be and for some kids, the only thing they'll hear will be from the school or the streets. In that case, the former would be better.
