Dogpile V. Google (9-11 remembrance)
NRO ^ | 9/11/06 | Jonah Goldberg

At Google nada about 9/11. At Dogpile, this.

Dogpile V. Google Cont'd [Jonah Goldberg]

Golly judging from a lot of email, I may have started something. For example:

It took me two minutes to switch from Google toolbar to Dogpile toolbar. The best part was that the Google uninstall page had a comments box asking why I was getting rid of their service. I let them know. Believe me, I let them know.

What do you mean, "compatible" with Firefox?

There's a Dogpile search engine add here

I tried to dload the toolbar and got this message:

WARNING!Non-Compatible System The Dogpile Toolbar is only compatible with the Microsoft Windows OS and Internet Explorer 5.01 or higher. To download the latest version of Internet Explorer, click here.

I use Firefox.

It's worked fine for me. Beta 2 was slow to open but Beta 3 and now RC1 work good.

I reckon so but I never cared for tabbed browsing or even Firefox, itself.

Any idea on registry edits to make Dogpile the default IE engine?

If you're using Dogpile you're still using Google anyway.

Darn.
I'd love to dump Google.
I get sick of blocking all of their various and assorted creepy little cookies.

And other Freeps can also let them know:

Google Inc.

phone: (650) 253-0000
fax: (650) 253-0001

Shame on them. Fax sending as I write...

Then again by going through Dogpile you're at least making the point that you prefer their attitude over Google's.

While I appreciate their nice 9/11 tribute, Dogpile is hardly a substitute for Google. Searching for the exact phrase, "George Bush," Dogpile gave me 84 results. Google yielded 26 million. What did I do wrong?

I use Google for searches, not memorials. I don't see why it should be controversial that they didn't put anything up for it.

A thread like this is posted every few months here, and each time I'm able to conjure up even less outrage. I wouldn't boycott, say, a grocery store because they didn't put a window display up for 9/11. Why should a non-political website be any different?

Google is anything but non-political.

Sorry to be so dumb, but how does one do this [download IE7]?

Google is not a politics-oriented site. Their employees may be overwhelmingly liberal, but, so long as their search technology is the best--and have no doubts, it is--it's no matter to me.

That's fine you feel that way. Many others prefer not to do business with a search engine that will put up tributes to all things liberal.
