I believe it is WWIV.

WW0. It's been going on for over a millennium.
Ventura County Bump!
Count me as one of those who call it WW 4. WW3 was the war against Communism, in which over 110,000 Americans died from 1946-1991.
WW4 begins at least in November 1979 with the taking of the embassy hostages in Teheran. Some make the case that it goes back to the assassination of Robert Kennedy by Sirhan Sirhan in 1968, which could have been a blatant attempt by Arafat and others to affect a Presidential race, at a time when we already had a leader assassinated, with Martin Luther King's death earlier that year.
So far, about six thousand Americans have been killed in WW4.
Also, please tell Chris Hitchens he did an admirable job standing up to that puke, Bill Maher, last week on HBO. I liked his hand signals to Bill's dopey audience. I could only stand to watch it because he was on it. Please invite him to the event in DC on the 23rd.
Good point--one war--and it is not over yet.
No - this is not WWIII. WWIII will take place after the destruction of Damascus (Isaiah 17:1), and Russia, China and all the Muslim/Arab nations come enmasse to take Israel out once and for all.
What Russia/China/et al do not know is that God will be waiting for them - and God knows how to "throw rocks".
Read about it in Ezekiel 36-39. These scriptures also indicate that Communism and Islamism will die at the end of that war and it will usher in the final harvest for the Church!
Will it be repeated over the weekend?
Don't know if it was relater, but History Channel ran a special tnight called 'Is this WWIII?' Pretty good primer/background on Shia fundamentalism, the middle east in gerneral.....
about to be repeated on the east coast
WW_X.3
So who says the numbering of conflict called "World Wars", a purely secular exercise, should have anything to do with your reading (or misreading) of the Holy Scriptures?
Well .. I've studied it a lot since 1985 .. and some of the prophecys I heard then have now come to pass .. for instance - it was stated in 1985 that Russia and China would form an alliance. People scoffed - but low and behold Russia and China have formed an alliance.
Therefore, who are you to say that GOD doesn't know the difference between WWI and WWII - and when WWIII will happen ..?? I might "misread" .. but GOD does not misspeak!
God didn't use purely modern concepts in the Scriptures, since they were address to all of humanity down the ages. Certainly not references to a fashion for numbering "world wars". Nor does He any where write "Russia" or "China", these are your readings. I am certain God knows when all future wars will take place, and on which one we humans will stick the name WW III and have it catch on. That's not the same as saying any particular conflict foretold in the Scriptures will get that name, which is what you are insisting.
Most misreadings of Scripture these days, seem to me, to be the result of cultural and temporal arrogance: the assumption that God addressed the Scriptures primarily to post-'Enlightenment' rationalists.
You obviously have not studied. Even "Desert Storm" was labeled in the Bible - the words were "a violent wind will come from the north, like a whirlwind" .. the word "whirlwind" is translated "desert storm".
So .. actually .. God does know what He's talking about. WWIII will actually be a war of Gog (Russia) and Magog (China), against Israel. But .. God will be there to defeat them.
I don't give a rip if you believe anything I say .. I have studied this since 1985 .. and I can tell you I've heard more than one prophecy scholar translate the scriptures in Ezekiel and Daniel the very same way.
It's you, sir, that are ignorant of the scriptures - and God's ability to see far, far into the future and reveal that to us by HIS scriptures. God sees the beginning and the end .. and he told us .. as born again believers, "you have been given the mysteries and secrets of the kingdom".
So please don't try to tell me you believe you have more authority or knowledge of the scriptures than God - and you are able to determine whether I have translated the scriptures correctly.
Being able to cite a pack of 'prophecy scholars', all of whom I wager are protestants rather than standing in the communion of any of the churches that can reasonably claim a continuity of spiritual life with the Church founded by Christ in his earthly ministry and in the pouring out of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles on the day of Pentecost in the year of His Saving Death and Resurrection*, is quite frankly underwhelming to me.
I have slowly come round to the view of Tertullian, that those outside the Church, have no right to appeal to Her books.
Identifying Gog with Russia and Magog with China is quite frankly absurd, as in the original Hebrew 'magog' means 'from Gog', a fact made clear the Septuigent version of Ezekiel in Greek (the one accepted by the entire Christian Church until Luther decided the Christ-denying rabbis of Jamnia were right to shorten the canon and toss out books that were too comfortable to the Christians, thereby starting the protestant enthusiasm for an hypothetical), in which Magog is manifestly a person, while Gog is a place.
Hebrew ur-text).
Sorry, I've studied as much or more than you, but I prefer to read the Scriptures under the tutelage of the Fathers of the Church down the ages, not some johnny-come-lately heretics who fancy they are living in the end-times, even though Christ Himself told us no man could know the hour of His return.
I see though you have dropped your insistence that this war you fancy is clearly prophesied in the Scriptures has to be the one we'll call WW III. I'm glad, as that was my original point.
*I, naturally, regard us Orthodox as having the best claim, though the Latins, monophysites (Copts, Armenians and Jacobites), and Nestorians (Assyrians) can all stake a claim, too--Baptists, 'Bible believing Christians' whose Bible was shortened by Luther, Lutherans, Presbyterians, . . . quite frankly can't.
Well .. when Isaiah 17:1 is fulfilled .. maybe you'll change your mind .. but then you've already made up your mind and I wouldn't want to confuse you with facts.
The fact that "protestants" are beneath you tells me a lot. I had a lot of friends when I was growing up - some of whom were Catholics .. but I never held that against them. But .. to say we're incompetent to read and interpret the scriptures .. how uncouth of you.
And .. you stick with your "Fathers" teaching - I'll stick with "the" Father!
Not 'beneath' me, just outside the Church, therefore not likely to read the Church's books right.
Christianity is a way of life founded upon a Person, not an ideology founded on a text. Outside that way of life, folks tend to read the texts wrong.
I would be curious to read your interpretation of the Sermon on the Mount ... what was the person saying to us in that sermon ... regarding a future state for believers, or just the poor of spirit, the persecuted, etc, for His namesake?
