I should note that I worked in the same office as John Ubaldi on the morning of 9/11. I stood (in Impeach98's office) next to Rudy Giuliani's political guy Jake watching the devastation all day as they began listing the names of the deceased police and fire brass. Poor Jake was in shock. He kept saying, I know that guy, I know that guy too.
Meanwhile John Ubaldi was placing calls to his reserve commander to request activation. I know a lot of men stepped up to enlist and reactivate after that terrible day, but Gunnery Sergeant Ubaldi was one of the first.
I will always remember that morning, and I salute John.
Beautifully said, ElkGroveDan!
John really had guts. Went and harrassed every person he could to get the next seat he could on a plane out to Afghanistan. Then he was off next to Iraq.
If only those who criticize, bitch and moan about the war on terrorism had the guts and fortitude of Master Sergeant Ubaldi!
Too many people are forgetting the horrors and also the heroics of that day.
This vigil is an opportunity to remember the former and salute the latter.
