>> I'm sure this "judge" feels the state will provide for her every need.

This judge is a former prosecutor. She ought to know better. Among the cases she prosecuted was a man who kept his wife and daughters captive in a darkened house behind a high screen fence for years and raped them all. In my judgment, it is a tossup whether a bureaucracy will treat Haleigh any better.

A little peek back at recent history: Supreme Judicial Court says life support can end for alleged beating victim, 11

Alleged beating victim? She was starved, burned with cigarettes, pushed down the stairs repeatedly and pounded with a baseball bat.

The court's solution to this was to FINISH HER OFF -- at the request of the state child PROTECTION agency! They said Haleigh should be starved and dehydrated, a la Terri. This is on top of the prior starvation, cigarette burns, and battering with a baseball bat. Judges understand these things.

The court was acting to "aid" and "care for" Haleigh, out of compassion. How do we know this? It said so, ever so poignantly, in its oh-so-compassionate order to kill her:

"Haleigh's memory will remind us, time and again, that we, as a society, need to do more to aid children who are neglected and abused, and thereby denied the care and nurturing they so desperately want and need," the opinion said. ''If [her] case helps other children to escape their misery, her short life will not have been in vain."

Haleigh Poutre -- under official Commonwealth of Massachusetts death threat; imprisoned and held incommunicado by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts; denied the right to see her own mother and grandmother by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Mitt Romney, governor.

Bother, that link brings up the photo of Avrett and her mother but it doesn't go directly to the story. It looks as if you have to register to read it. I found the story in Haleigh Poutre (images, not news), in google, and had no trouble reading the cached story. On the second visit, though, I am prompted to register. Oh, well :-)

>> Overall, newspaper reporting on comas is done fairly well, but may give readers a more positive outlook on comas than is witnessed in medical facilities, the study authors say.

Yeah. Right. Reporters in every state, every city, every hamlet, on every newspaper and magazine and radio station and TV station reported that Terri had had a heart attack, was brain-dead, in irreversible coma, a vegetable, had no hope of recovery, was already dead; her brain was gone, liquified, a black hole, destroyed. They reported these things hundreds of thousands of times.

Not a word of it was true.

I sent this to a journalist friend who lives near Boston.

Tho we often see things very differently, I know she has
a heart for the disabled.

Let us know what your friend thinks of it. We need people of every persuasion to stand up for one dear, battered child.

Charlie Crist has now ticked off the Aging with Dignity people and the AARP of which he is a member. He's no leader. He said Terri was up to God and family. Well, then as a governor, he is not prepared to lead is he? He's prepared to pass the buck. Further, in today's St. Pete Times, Crist the offensive said "MY AGENDA". Folks, he's fronting for powerful people and it's THEIR AGENDA, not cc's. The powerful people are NOT conservatives, I repeat. Lots of them aren't even Americans!

What's wrong with that Judge re: Haleigh? What tests does Mom have to pass? Does she have to participate in a triathalon and win it before she can see her own flesh and blood?

But, they aren't trying to kill Haleigh for her organs now at least.

"I was saying to her 'I love you,' and she was trying to say 'love' and it came out as a vibration...'ove'"

Beautiful on many levels.

However, I'm thinking about a new State Fair delicacy. Lutefisk on a stick. You'd wrap the lutefisk in lefse, then deep fry it. Oh, yumm!

Looks like you are onto something big, worth a patent.

That would show the folks of the south a thing or two!

Fried Coke a big hit at US state fairs

To address what I was getting at, maybe money was the problem and her time that it would take.

I wonder if Terri herself has been cross-examining Dr. Humane Death recently and 'splaining the error of his ways to him :-)

I don't think his BS is going work quite as well. When he answers, I think something like this will be said ... "Because I enjoyed it".

Money was a problem, yes. Conceivably it would not be this time around, if, say, she got a good advance for a book.

Yoo-hoo, Regnery! Have we got a deal for you!

Money was a problem, yes.

Sure it was, almost every dime Terri had went into the effort to kill her and not one penny to help save her. The Trust Fund was HER money!

Of course that was all to pay for lawyers who wanted to kill Terri. There wasn't a dime for lawyers defending her. I gather that Pat Anderson had to work for far less than her regular rate, and over time, that became hurtful. Still, she plugged on and on.

The same was true of the doctors. Greer paid the hostile docs (Greer, Cranford, Bambi), plus expenses. (He used Terri's money, of course.) Hammesfahr and Maxfield had to work pro bono. I believe the former got one small expense bill paid, that's all.

I love "fair" trials like this, don't you?

I think she damn near went broke and could not continue.

That reminds me, Judge Greer called Hammesfahr a 'self promoter' for his efforts.
