It's dead, Jim, for the moment. The corpse cannot remain forever dead, however, because it gets getting electric shock treatments, aka as reality.

Here's the article, go to the link for the full story.

Hard to say if it is true or not. It's plausible, but the supporting quotes are either not sourced or seeming non-sequiturs supporting what NYTimes is suggesting what should be the reality. Trend journalism.

The admission that the Frist quote might not be relevant is funny.

Good, kill the damn thing instead of passing more laws that won't get enforced.

The War on Terror is certainly a better issue to go into the Midterm elections with, as compared with Immigration which is just a divisive issue.

This is a smart move politically to address Immigration in the next Congress rather than now..

We are going to see a lot of articles like this one between now and election day.

Everybody better just strap in.

Its time for the "demoralize their base" agenda from the NYT.

They will try to convince conservative voters that they have nothing but traitors representing them and that showing up to the polls is a complete waste of time.

Turnout will likely favor Republicans and the NYT knows this. So everyone needs to have a skeptical eye for articles like this.

Personally, I think immigration is part of the war on terror.

"“We Republicans believe that we have no choice in the war against terror and the only way to do it is to continue to take them head-on whether it is in Iraq or elsewhere,” said Representative John A. Boehner of Ohio, the majority leader"

You know John, you don't have to go 10,000 miles to Iraq to protect America, just protect our borders!

No profiles in courage to be seen here folks. Just move along!

Maybe if these RINOs get voted out in November they will have the guts in the lame duck session to pass the enforcemnt without amnesty bill they couldn't beforehand in hopes the pandering would save their skin.

Naaahhh! No way!

And if they eeek out a narrow win and keep their majorities because the voters are more fearful of the Dems cut-and-run agenda, they will say it vindicates their "comprehensive" open borders/amnesty immigration stand.

The will of the American majority just can't win with these politicians.

Great... once again the issue we all really care about is tossed aside for the sake of a few votes...

I do beleive our border security IS part of our war on terror but what do I know? ...I'm not a career politician trying to save his job.

"Congressional Republican leaders have all but abandoned a broad overhaul of immigration laws and instead will concentrate on national security issues they believe play to their political strength. "

Ha....good luck with that one. Illegal immigration, IMO, is going to be a key issue. A '"broad overhaul of immigration laws" wasn't needed in the first place, enforcement was. And, while they may be able to put 'amnesty' on the backburner for now, if they think that they can continue to separate securing our border from what they perceive to be "national security issues" and be dismissive of this country's demands for IMMEDIATE border security, I believe they are sadly mistaken.

SECURE THE BORDERS NOW.

I am so disgusted with all of our politicians. They are corrupt beyond pale. Democrats and Republicans alike. We need a clean slate. Homeland Security is a joke. Sorry, but I worry more about the fact that every day my way of life is being destroyed over illegals. Can someone please ask them how we can have Homeland Security and an open border at the same time? How we have millions of people here and we don't know who they are?

I went in the wrong profession. Goodness just got 30 days of vacation. Now they work 19 days and then break for elections. What do the guys who aren't running doing? Going to Hawaii? I never realized how much time these guys got off until I joined FREEPERS. Anyone who wants a solid education needs to read FREEPERS that is for sure. It is embarrassing how much I did not know about our government pre-2005.
