Sanchez is also a Portuguese Jewish name.
Christopher Columbus's patron Gabriel Sanchez was Jewish.
Good point. "Hamilton Sanchez" is a very Brazilian name, and he was from Newark, where there is a large Portuguese and Lusophone community. Still, most Iberian Jews who ended up in the Americas were "New Christians" and under watch of the Inquisition. This Sanchez might come from an observant Sephardi family (although the name "Hamilton" indicates that he does not) or from a "crypto-Jewish" family of Catholics who retain some Jewish practices. There are many in Brazil.
