Todays so called "R and B"has no rhythm and no blues. Its a bunch of techno pop with no soul or feeling, just warbling.
If you want to hear REAL R and B,check out Otis Redding,Sam and Dave,The Dells,Aretha and Wilson Pickett.
I'm a fan of all of the above, and also of Lauryn Hill, Alicia Keys, Norah Jones, Seal, Erykah Badu, and a whole lot of other young singers I'm not thinking of just now. They might use a little more percussion that you're used to, but there are R&B singers out there who are putting out music you would recognize as the artistic offspring of Marvin Gaye and Patti LaBelle.
Them are my roots.
Billie Holiday on Dad's old 78's got me started when I was a teen.
Plus Dad did not allow Rock and Roll in the house.
