Sept. 11's Las Vegas connection a mystery
LAS VEGAS, Sept. 11 (UPI) -- Five years after the U.S. terror attacks by al-Qaida members, why all four pilots who hijacked the airplanes visited Las Vegas remains a mystery, CBS reports.
Investigators who worked at unraveling the attacks, and those still on the case say it's also a mystery as to what the men did while in Las Vegas. They weren't seen by anyone, which is difficult in a city with so many closed-circuit security cameras.
Dale Watson, who ran counterterrorism for the FBI and led the original investigation, told CBS he's concerned there could still be operatives in Las Vegas awaiting further orders.
On his first of two trips to the city, hijacker Muhammad Atta drove a rental car 110 miles in two days, but there's no indication of where he went or who he met, Watson said.
