He leaps through the window? And stabs the guy to death, many stabbings?

Possible he was high on something? But if so wouldn't we have all heard about it from the police?

My guess is he went through the window because he's done so before. "Mild-mannered" is sometimes a euphemism for light in the loafers. The wife was away, with the baby daughter -- that is strange. The wife calls the husband and tells the story, okay maybe the two year old is exceptionally precocious and has amazing verbal ability -- UNLIKELY! You do not get detailed consistent narrative from any two year old no matter what the subject. Why was the wife away? Had her husband been hanging out with the "weird" neighbor. And the neighbor seems to have some recent evidences of weirdness, true.

And here the young mild-mannered patent lawyer doesn't wait to interview the daughter himself -- no for *some reason* he felt immediate lethal action was needed. Sorry charlie, THAT bell doesn't ring AT ALL. There's more to this story, and more back-story relationships to be uncovered. At least if the investigators are up to it. Which they probably ain't. When DID the last murder happen in that area?
