"This was a recent water vapor image of Ioke. It still boggles my mind comparing the latitude lines to where I live, and how much territory it would cover were it in the United States."

What are the divisions on the image you provided in your post? 1 degree? 5 degrees? 10 degrees?

The main part of the typhoon takes up about 4 x 4 divisions and the eye is about 1/4 or 1/3 of a division in diameter.

Just trying ot get a sense of scale here.

Divisions are two degrees (Long/Lat).

Here's a recent (2330Z Aug 30th) IR image of Ioke approaching Wake Island. That black dot, two squares down, two squares right from the top left is Wake.

Current observations on Wake (00:48Z Aug 31st) 43.15 knots per hour wind, 56.57 knots per hour gusts, 992.40 mbars pressure. No idea how long the weather station will last on Wake, wave heights are supposed to get to 50 feet, and the station is at 12 feet.
