Huckabee is a savvy intuition. Whether or not he fits the bill for social conservatives, I don't know. I don't know enough about his views, other than that he thinks fat is bad. I have seen him on the tube however, and he is effective.
For whatever else goes on, Huckabee is thoroughly out of step with the party on immigration. That will go over like a lead balloon, not just in the primary, but the general.
I think Huckabee is a Baptist minister. He introduced covenant marriage in Arkansas and remarried his wife in a high-profile ceremony debuting the law, so he walks the walk.
I don't think the Arkansas micropolitics will be any kind of issue, because few people pay attention to state party cultivation, and I hold enough hope in the competence of candidates that they will "see the light" on immigration if the alternative is ending their career.
The one caveat: I've heard his wife is an alienating factor, and running her for Secretary of State on a vanity campaign was a very bad idea.
