Is there anybody in America who doesn't know that cigarettes are addictive and harmful to your health?

Haven't they done it already? We see anti-tobacco commercials run by organizations funded by Tobacco companies. It sounds bizzare, but it's happening now.

In the 1930's,cigarettes were routinely referred to as "coffin nails".

Back when I was trying to quit, I used to hate seeing the PSA's about how harmful smoking was and how I should quit. It just made me want another smoke. Quitting is a personal decision and it's something you have to really WANT to do. Having some talking head on TV tell me that smoking is bad doesn't make me want to quit.

"ordered tobacco companies Thursday to admit they lied"

Don't they have a 5th Amendment right?

This federal judge, for one. Remember he is democrat-appointed.

I've seen warnings on cigarettes for 40 years...

How old is this judge?? Twelve?

What BS.

People really need someone to tell them smoking isn't good for them?

They've been known as "coffin nails" for longer than my mother can remember and she's 74 this year.

She's a Carter appointee then a Clinton one. She's the most overruled judge in this District.

Well if the tobacco companies have to admit they lied than how about the left admits to all of their lies.....ie: global warming, how guns and SUV's dangerous and evil etc.

From the link...

Civil racketeering laws require a finding that fraud occurred. If a judge does make that finding, action must be taken to prevent it from occurring again.

Can somebody 'Xplain why this doesn't apply to state and federal gummint agencies and executives?

Big time fraud: claiming that the tobacco money would be used for the treatment of tobacco related ilnesses, and using it instead for gay parades, golf courses, you name it?

Fraud
Fraud
Fraud

to warn consumers in advertisements and packaging that tobacco is addictive.

I wanted to type something cool and pithy but after approx. 46 years of tobacco warnings, I couldn't think of anything that hasn't been said before.........Just take the money judge and let the states figure out what to do with it.

Time for the states and courts to move on, this tobacco cash cow is almost ready for the slaughter house.

That being said, beer and alcohol is a veritible cornucopia of untouched cash profits for the states and the lawyers, so lets get the ball rolling, start suing these death merchants...........
