Well it is what the militants are.
Islam is its own politial/legal ideology.
It would be like trying to define Nazism in terms of Communism.

The muslim supremacists see society as 3 tiered. Muslims at the top, Jews and Christians (people of the book) beneath them (and with lesser rights by law), and "everyone else" (Hindus, Buddhists, Atheists, ex-muslims) at the bottom.
"Co-existence" comes from acknowledging their supremacy.
