I remember Mike Douglas having Olga Korbut on after the 1972 Olympics (If I recall correctly, it was maybe during her tour of the U.S. later in 1973) and he presented her with a gift. They had a big build up and just like Monty Hall the curtain swung open and Mike (bless his heart) gave her a shiney new 1973 Chevrolet......... Vega.

I did enjoy watching his show in the afternoons though.

Kids came home to Mike Douglas after school.

Same here. TV seemed much nicer back then. Mike was like a prime time Johnny.

RIP, Mike (I liked your Christmas album, too).

Others have said it already, but it bears repeating: Douglas was a classy guy with a classy show.

Here's a couple of neat clips of Mike from Youtube:

Mike doing a duet with Freda Payne.

Mike inteviewing the one and only Johnny Cash.

Kids came home to Mike Douglas after school. It was a friendly show.

Yep, I'm old enough to remember watching Mike Douglas' show on a pretty regular basis back in the day.

Sad news. RIP, Mike...

In 24 years, we've gone from Mike Douglas in the afternoon to Oprah. From a decent variety show to one where teen girls have been on to talk about performing oral sex and "tossing the salad". Not saying that everything should be swept under the rug, but it shows what's happened to TV in a quarter century.

Yep. I remember his Philly days. His show was a fixture in the afternoons from the time I entered school until after college.

Like most of you, I too watched Mike Douglas every day after school just before supper. He's was always decent, smiling, affable. And funny too. There were so many moments of laughter when he put really different people together on his show.

He was a good man.
