Mike Douglas, who drew on his affable personality and singing talent during 21 years as host of a syndicated television talk show, died Friday on his 81st birthday, his wife said.

The afternoon talk show, which aired from 1961 to 1982, featured Douglas' ballad and big-band singing style, other musicians, comedians, political personalities and sports figures. His interviews included seven men who were then, had been or would become president.

What are the odds of dying on your birthday?

Never mind -- 365 to 1?

D'oh! Thank you!

Aw geez, I was at the library today and spotted one of his cookbooks. I didn't put 2+2 together when thinking of the Galloping Gourmet. Too much water under the bridge, I guess. :)

My aunt died on her almost, lifelong address number of 313 (3/13).

I'm not superstitious, but that was kind of weird.

I guess we could find coincidences anywhere if we looked long and hard enough.

RIP Mike. He seemed like a nice guy and had a decent show that anyone could have watched without being embarrased.

I blame Phil Donohue for the change.

Yep. Donohue is, was and will always be a scumbag.

Not only was Mike a nice guy, but many of his guests were very interesting celebrities that people admired. That seldom happens these days.

When I was a kid, his daughter lived in the house across the street from me. This was in Cleveland Hts., Ohio. She was a beautiful young lady and very nice. I always watched his show growing up. They just don't make them like they used to; he was a classy guy. My mom and I still talk about him.

He used to sing, 1946-51, with Kay Kyser's band on the Kollege of Musical Knowledge

I never realized he was the singing voice of Prince Charming for Disney's 1950 animated classic, 'Cinderella.'

Blast from the past. I remember the Michael Douglas Show being on after school during the 1970s. I can still remember the flowers on the walls (like the Dating Game) and the laundromat chairs. They still got those type of plastic chairs in some laundromats today.
