Mike Douglas, who drew on his affable personality and singing talent during 21 years as host of a syndicated television talk show, died Friday on his 81st birthday, his wife said.
The afternoon talk show, which aired from 1961 to 1982, featured Douglas' ballad and big-band singing style, other musicians, comedians, political personalities and sports figures. His interviews included seven men who were then, had been or would become president.
Yep, nary an Xer failed to see this showing during childhood.
Wow! I knew that he sang for Kay Kyser, but I had no idea that Mike Douglas was the singing voice of Prince Charming in Cinderella. RIP, Mike.

I also remember watching David Brenner the comedian on there it seemed like he was there alot.
Sad - but I am glad he lived a long life.

I recall having your choice in the afternoons of Mike, Merv, Steve Allen or Virgina Graham. Here In the Philly area Mike used to come on around 1pm. Guests on these shows would all seem to make the rounds; Totie Fields, Jack E. Leonard, Dick Shawn, Louie Nye, Rocky Graziano (ton name a few). I belive when Mike moved his show from Philly to LA he was replaced shortly therafter by John Davidson.
I was also one of those kids, Great show he will be missed.

Another 60’s TV Icon gone. I didn't watch his show much - at my young age I was watching Gilligan, F-troop, The Adams Family, and all of the rest of the great kid’s afternoon line-up.
Man they had great TV back then. I have satellite now with dozens and dozens of channels, but many a night we flip through every channel and there is nothing on worth watching. I am sure back in the 1960s when we had 5 or 6 channels there was almost always something on worth viewing. Even the test pattern at 2:00 am was worth staring at for a few minutes just to be sure it would stay on.
It is a different planet, remade in the image of degeneracy and still descending. Don't believe it's a different world? Think about what past America would have allowed a sexually degenerate president to wag his finger in America's face and lie while he was proven to be diddling with interns in the Oval office. Then think about how an entire political party has jumped into the septic tank with him to defend his degeneracy as 'unimportant'.
You have to be from Philadelphia. I loved Gene London especially when he did his drawings. I think my all time favorite Philly TV personality was Dr. Shock.
I hated Pixanne. What about Bertie the Bunyip, do remember that and what the hell is a bunyip?
