Agreed. I calculate that trips of about 1,000 to 1,200 miles each way are about a break-even on cost. If I figure the hassle factor of flying is worth $800 round trip ($400 each way, then any trip up to 2,000 to 2,400 miles is a break-even.

Even with the current gasoline prices. Naturally, you should take steps to make your automobile travel as productive as possible, business-wise. Like, carry a laptop capable of high-speed Ethernet and high-speed wireless. Maybe even get a Blackberry, if you can trust yourself to use it safely while drive.
