Here's the sad thing: how do we know the "correct" photo is not fake, but just more cleverly photoshopped?

How do we know that the "accurate" one is not just a prior version of the original doctored photo? Say their were 10 evolutions of the original photo leading to the one that was published and that the so called "accurate" one is one of the 9 evolutions?

The problem this poses is that without a detailed explanation of what happened, all photo;s are now suspect.
