Mel Gibson's most important movie may not be released

LOS ANGELES - The movie that could be the most important of Mel Gibson's career is one that may never be released if the actor and law enforcement authorities prevail.

But at least one media outlet is seeking access immediately to the potentially explosive video and audio of Gibson's drunken driving arrest.

The visual and audio record could add fuel to the controversy over Gibson's anti-Semitic tirade at a deputy who pulled him over and his self-described belligerent behavior toward deputies when he was brought to a sheriff's station in the early morning hours of July 28.

TMZ, an Internet celebrity news site which first released leaked sections of Gibson's booking report, maintains the tapes should be seen and heard by the public to assess whether the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department gave Gibson preferential treatment.

"We want the tapes not just because of Mel Gibson but because the tape puts the conduct of the Sheriff's Department in context," said Harvey Levin, head of TMZ. He said he had learned that the deputy who arrested Gibson radioed ahead to the station that someone should be prepared to videotape the scene because of Gibson's behavior.

"From what I understand, the deputies were very excited because Mr. Gibson was there," Levin said Thursday. "The tape may show them gathering around to peer at him."

Los Angeles' leading First Amendment lawyers said it will be an uphill battle to obtain the tapes before the case is resolved.

Attorney Douglas Mirell predicted authorities would invoke the investigative records exemption to the California Public Records Act, which is the single most litigated exemption...."

Who else do you think might have picked up the phone to give details about the incident, including alleged changes to the police report, etc.? Levin had a lot of inside stuff very quickly. He had a very knowledgeable tipster whoever it was.

I seem to recall a lot of negative commentary and analysis and obstruction as well as nasty accusations and attacks aimed at Mel by Jews during the run up to "The Passion of the Christ."

If I were attacked by a people and my greatest career achievment were attacked by that same people...I'm afraid I would feel animosity towards them...I would dislike them and I wouldn't have much nice to say about them...in fact I would probably want to say bad things about them...

In fact the reaction of many Jews to Mel and his movie struck me as very anti-catholic...is that too a bad thing or not?

Nothing so horrible as the Holocaust has happened to my family members or people...I assume if it had I would carry a grave antipathy for anyone who carried ill will toward me or mine...particulary if they had no foundation for their antipathy toward me.

Having said that Mel Gibson has plenty of reason to hold ill will towards many Jews in Hollywood... Deciding to express it to armed Jewish officers of the law while being arrested for violating the law isn't wise. Drunken driving isn't wise. Mel sure had a lapse of wisdom.

Now he needs to deal with his lapse and his anger and I for one, don't really care to hear about it anymore.

As for the Jews...they should thicken their skin and be grateful the so many of us goyim are on the side of their Israeli breathen against the Hezbos, Hamasses and Iranicals.

Since when does the public have "the right to know" when a private citizen makes a fool of himself?

Under the law celebrities don't have the same rights as "real people." Strange but true. Also, once you're in the public eye, you're in it forever with those rights forever gone. You can't suddenly declare yourself a "private citizen."

If you want to know about the "right to privacy" check out the case of William Sidis. The guy wasn't famous for decades and the court ruled he had limited right to privacy.

" Nothing so horrible as the Holocaust has happened to my family members or people..

Good thing you weren't a Ukrainian Catholic stuck in the Holocaust in the late 20's and early 30's, or a Polish Catholic trying to hide Jewish friends and nieghbors during Hitler's rampage, the penalty if caught doing such a thing was death.

I'm alive because some of my ancestors servived that horror, the lack of serviving relatives in the Ukraine and Poland today is because many didn't servive those two bloody animals, hero's to the NYT's.

I wonder, is all this publically attacking Mel by Jewish organizations merely going to backfire on them? If Hollywood does indeed crush his career will that not reinforce the idea that Hollywood is a Jewish organization? And if they are unforgiving of Mel will that merely give people the licesnse to be less forgiving of Israel when something takes place that maybe looks negative for Israel?

As for the jewish community "thickening their skin, I think for the most part they have thick skin, it's the media which is trying to make cuts in it.

Media never makes much noise at all when Muslim Imam's, Siekhs and Mullahs call for the death of every Jew on earth, nor do they utter a peep about Islamic schools and their text books in the mid east teaching hatred against Jews, Christians, Hindu's, and the west in general.
There is a serious LACK of balance in our media, perhaps because shareholders are from Arab countries?

That's what I'm thinking. I don't think the attack on Mel is coming from the Jewish community, it's coming from the Islamic one, and just made to look like it's coming from the Jewish community. As I mentioned earlier, it's a not so obvious way to weaken support for Israel.

Is there an off chance that the public just likes to see the rich and famous get caught in a jam and the press is only too happy to oblige in order to sell papers?

It fascinates me, that just as we can call the liberals godless and they just ignore that and go on about the jersey girls, but when Mel's best work about the death of the Messiah is mentioned, everyone just goes on talking about anything else.

His drinking does not negate the truth of Christianity.

Nor does avoiding the truth of facing it by idle chit chat.

If anything, this should remind us we're all sinners. We all could die any day, and we need the only Savior there is!

Really. This is pathetic. A crazy Muslim walks into a Jewish temple or something along those lines, and shoots people, it doesn't even make headlines for a day, but Mel is front page for a week.

What's wrong with this picture?

How many other Killings were there this week across the nation involving Muzzis which have been covered up and made to look like the normal average murder?

Not really, it's just forced on us if you turn on the TV. It's Hollywood's morbid fascination with themselves!
How many times a day is there an "entertainment tonight" type of show on? It's pathetic really. No wonder people are spending more time on the PC than they do watching TV these days (new poll)

"Where was this "one media outlet" when Hillary was spewing at the mouth about F'N Jew bastards?"

The same place they were hiding when Madonna, sober, released "Die Another Day"
