I'm going on the assumption that Memphis' black leaders will go all-out to assure there's not a split vote in '08.

Memphis doesn't have a united Black leadership. The Mayor, King Willie Herenton, holds onto a decent chunk of the Black vote while scaring White voters into supporting him because he knows they don't want the Fords completely controlling the city. He is opposed by the Fords, and other lesser Black power-hustlers, doing nada for their people and lining their pockets.
