Good point, but geometry is a stand-alone concept - it works whether the Egyptians used it or not. Same for astronomy.

The same can be said of any historical concept. Democracy functions, whether you know about Pericles and Athens or not. Perspective works independently of Renaissance art. The historical underpinnings are important to know, because they provide context and relevance to Western Civ.
