Helen's questions were NOT rude. *fainting*
> They can't get off this assumption that what is needed is an immediate ceasefire.
When they say that, they mean they want the Israelis to cease fire. They are perfectly content to have the Hezbullies firing.
Love the tag line.
Tony: If someone crosses your borders and kills and kidnaps your soldiers you have a right to defend yourself. Helen: any US involvement in hostilities? Tony: no. Helen: Widening war? Tony: I certainly hope not. We are trying to create the conditions for peace. Reporter: could be several more weeks, are you OK with that? Tony: we are working for a resolution in the UN that will set out the conditions you are looking for. Have to look for Hezbollah for the time frame. One of the very hard practical things we are discussing this. This is not a snap of the finger quick resolution sort of thing. People of Lebanon have had enough betrayed promises over the years.
Some of these questions are the equivalent of "Are we there yet, mommy?"
Thanks for transcribing, LL, great job! :-)
Bush set a nice big trap for the press/ Islamofascists with their regular inconsistency. lol Oh, we want a cease fire, just like they do.
But by slow walking it, there will be many fewer Hezzies available to break it. ;-)

Tony: I don't think treating people as shields will be a winner (for Hezbos) over the long run. I haven't been taking 0pinion polls. Bret: days not week. Tony: we've been making clear what our intentions are. We hope there are conditions will Israelis and Hezbollah can stand down. Reporter: How much distance between Syrians and French...Tony: no informal communications with Syria. They can do it now formally. They can watch now and dial it back. There should be no confusion in Syria or Iran about our position on Hezbollah. Reporter: is position politically tenable? Tony: Israel isn't running for election they are defending their country.
Thank you. It's true, you know. ;-)

Tony is soooooo awesome!
He treats them like a room full of nursery school kids. ha.
Really. Maybe if Helen holds her breath until she turns blue, Tony will give in and announce an immediate cease fire.
Yeesh.
> Helen's questions were NOT rude. *fainting*
I've noticed a distinct drop in the overall rate of stupid, leading questions.
Thanks pinz...
Tony: not going to get in the middle of negotiations. Daily question...there have been conversations daily with the Israeli gov't. President has had discussions with heads of state who have talked to Iran and Syria. We have told Israel you have the right to defend yourself but you should exercise restraint. Tony: we haven't given a green light. This assumption is a disservice to Israel and to us. You have just heard from Bret...we are talking about days not weeks....
Another of their obsessions is with the "green light", i.e., America is running this, isn't it?
I bet Tony just wishes he could put these dummies in the corner, they are unreal.
"When they say that, they mean they want the Israelis to cease fire. They are perfectly content to have the Hezbullies firing."
Tony is so good at keeping the responsibility where it belongs. It's up to Hezbollah. They lay down arms and return the hostages and the fighting will stop.
Tony: going to be a donor's conference . No doubt that when hostilities cease there will be a need to rebuild Lebanon (my comment, what about Israel???)...
Need to rebuild Lebanon. Saudi Arabia may help??
> America is running this, isn't it?
They have to be, otherwise how can they blame the President for every bad thing that happens.
Translation: It's all Bush's fault.
Tony - remind them that yesterday Thailand suffered from over 40 bombings by Islamifascists. It's not about Israel, either.
I didn't know that it had been that bad yesterday.
