Maybe he wants people to enjoy their life in the mean time. He understands God wants people to live their life for him and continue on with regular life, but to keep their heart right should his return be unexpected.

There have always been evil times in the world's history because of evil people. Our duty is to live as followers of Jesus so that we are ready no matter when He returns.
