We believe that the Bible should be understood literally whenever possible.

That's precisely the problem. The book of Revelation stretches to the limits of what can be interpreted literally, then shatters those limits into tiny shards.

If it weren't part of the holy scripture of a major religion, anybody who attempted to read it would dismiss it as the result of ingesting bad shrooms.

I can't believe someone would say that.

An individual who dreams up a completely new interpretation of Scripture unknown to any previous generation of Christians, promotes his new interpretation as the true essence of the Gospel and launches a financial empire based on a correspondence course where the only study materials are his articles and a Bible with no references other than his own notes is a scam artist.

He may be a hero to some who have purchased his snake oil, but those who realize that the Scriptures do not require Scofield to elucidate them are not impressed.

It is reassuring that even worse was said about Christ.

In other words, you imply that criticizing Scofield is tantamount to blaspheming Christ himself. That's almost the definition of a cultist attitude.

Where have you been drinking all your bile from?

In other words, telling the truth = drinking bile.

I dissent from that view.

Couldn't have said it better.

It's amazing to me how much bile these threads uncover.

If Christ comes, you know it will be sponsored by Anhauser-Busch and Arthur Daniels Midland.

And it will be on all the channels.

They may even have a Reality Show: "Christ Damns You!" Synopsis: 12 people and Christ are stranded on a desert island, and based on spiritual trials and feats of physical endurance/strength, Christ picks another "Apostle" which has to leave the island.

In the Apostolic writings we are told that the end of the world will be brought about through a general conflagration, which, however, will not annihilate the present creation, but will change its form and appearance (2 Peter 3:10-13; cf. 1 Thessalonians 5:2; Apocalypse 3:3,

I'll stick with these Apostolic writings...

2Pe 3:11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
2Pe 3:12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

The earth will be no more...

One should not confuse being dissolved with being annihilated.

When a sugar cube is dropped in a glass of water, the sugar cube indeed dissolves but it does not cease to exist.

Of course, I'll agree. You know I might wish to even consider some of their points if their intense hatred wasn't so apparent. Thiat ugly carnality (hatred, implaccablility, discontent, maligning) is what starts their little engines.

It's too bad because they so poorly represent the Reformed School of Christianity (eg. Spurgeon, Pink, etc --very considrate persons in the past). These radicals are totally fixated on the five points of Calvinism with a meager understanding of spiritual dynamics (eg. fruits of the Spirit, walk in the Spirit, spiritual growth, carnality vs. spirituality, confession of sin, modus operandi of the Christian life) and other parts of Scripture. These late 20th Century hyper-Calvinists are to truly be avoided. Don't get in the mud with them.

LaHaye is a huckster whose job is selling books to Christians who treat Christianity as a superstition and not as a call.

Wow - awesome statement. Very, very well put. I've known several of the folk to whom you refer and that is a perfect description!

See what LeHaye and Lindsay, with their zest to make money -- making merchandise of the Gospel -- have done? Dispensational theology is ridiculed because of them.

Lindsay should have known better. He was taught Scripture at Berrachah Church where they had a very strong prohibition against selling anything related to the exposition of the Word.

The definition of dispensation (oikonomia) is administration (of a household or estate); specifically a (religious) “economy”: - dispensation, stewardship.

Your definition doesn't fit the verse...

1Co 9:17 For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation a task of ordering things of the gospel is committed unto me.

However, if you don't like 'dispensation' we can use administration...

1Co 9:17 For if I do this thing willingly, I have a reward: but if against my will, a dispensation administration of the gospel is committed unto me.

Now that ,makes a little more sense than task...

But look at the context...If Paul does something willingly, he gets a reward, but if he does it against his will, it is not the grace of God working in him...And something else is comitted onto him...

You guys would be better of if you would just believe what you read...

Ah, the perils of prognosticating Judgment Day. Frankly, Mr. LaHaye needs to pick up a history book if he thinks that today's events are somehow worse

With all do respect... bad times and end time are two different things... the Bible's end times are to be marked by a unique set of prophetic condition... this is no different then Christ would be known by meeting a set of prophetic condition...

I do not know if this is the end time.. but I do know that "end time" sign is not about seeming to be the worse times no more then Christ is about seeming to be the best

The Bible is very fair in this in it contents to prove it truth by predicting what unique condition will be seen preceding and event... this is no different then how we test any one else can they correctly call what you will see before something happens....

(A stock broker tells you if you see this and this and this it means that to do this or a scientist tell you if you see this and this and this it means this will happen and if they call it right you give them creditability they know what their talking about...But stock broker & scientist operate from knowing cause and effect...prophetic condition is not about cause and effect but marker to verify)

But again my point is not about if this is or is not the end times but I do content the end time are not about history's worst times

That's precisely the problem. The book of Revelation stretches to the limits of what can be interpreted literally, then shatters those limits into tiny shards.

See, there's the problem...LeHaye was saying you should believe it as written...You think you have to interpret everything...

Why??? I suppose it's because you don't understand what you read, or you don't like what you read...So you have to interpret to make it mean something you like...That's the way it works, isn't it???

The ironic thing is that for all of LaHaye's insistence on literalism, the word "rapture" doesn't appear ANYWHERE in the Bible.

I've met Hal in a small group. I wouldn't characterize him that way at all. Actually, not LaHaye either. I think both have a passion for God and for people.

I was in San Diego for 10 years. LaHaye was there. I didn't prefer his church but could well understand folks who did.

Folks will carp about anything and for some, carping IS their religion.

I don't need to throw rocks at either of them. God is their Master; not me.
