Heightened vigilance leads to student's arrest
Increased vigilance arising from the British discovery of a plot to bomb airliners was credited with the arrest the arrest this morning at O'Hare International Airport of a man wanted in an unrelated case.
Ahmed Mohamed Abou El Ela, 22, was one of 11 Egyptian exchange students who recently failed to report for a month-long program at Montana State University in Bozeman, officials said. Though they were not considered terror suspects, the students were sought by federal immigration authorities.
About 8 a.m. today, an individual at a Delta ticket counter at O'Hare tried to use a ticket that originally was for a flight from New York to Bozeman, Chicago police Supt. Philip Cline said at a news conference this afternoon to discuss the heightened security at O'Hare and Midway Airports.....

Possible bomb blocks off portion of Lancaster Drive (Oregon)
There is a report of a suspicious device at Roths on Lancaster Drive. Police are evacuating the store and a nearby Key Bank.
They also may evacuate a liquor store and check-cashing store, nearby.
They have shut down Lancaster Drive at the Center Street intersection.
The device was described as a cylinder with tape and caps on the end. The Oregon State Police bomb squad is enroute.
Traffic is huge mess in that area, with backups on every one of the side streets.
The device in the Roth's parking lot is described as a pipe, 2 inches in diameter, with wires.
A similar description has been given for a suspicious device in the parking garage of ****Salem Hospital**** at this hour.
