I wish I could do something, but I am 56 years old. Aside from cheering from the side lines, any suggestions?
I'm with you ol timer. I'm 62 and in pretty good shape and just chomping at the bits
First of all, if it were possible for ol codgers like us (and I am convinced that we who have military experience and knowledge, like mine in Military Intelligence could contribute to a substantial degree) I would first and foremost, join OUR military.
On the other hand, if I were younger, I might consider joining the IDF, providing the language barriers and citizenship obstacles could be overcome.
In just a few days I will be turning 60, if I were in my 20s I would consider it a privilege to serve in the IDF, even though Im not Jewish because I think their fight is right. I did have the honor to serve in my countrys service in the late 60s (volunteered, not drafted).
Since you and some others have expressed interest in doing what you can to help out, then please check out this link:

Apparently, it's a way for non-Israelis and non-Jews to help out in Israel by volunteering to work for several weeks in places like hospitals or army bases (doing the routine supply & maintenane work that frees up soldiers for other duties).
I also came across this website that has a lot of links to other volunteer programs in Israel. Spend a little time and check them out; maybe you'll find something suitable.
