BRUSSELS, Belgium (AP)--The European Union will not add Hezbollah to its list of terrorist organizations, the EU's Finnish presidency said Tuesday.
"Given the sensitive situation where we are, I don't think this is something we will be acting on now," Finland's Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja said Tuesday after a ministerial meeting that adopted a proposal aimed at ending the conflict between Israel and Lebanon.
Although the E.U., like the United States, considers Hamas a terrorist group, it has refused to add Hezbollah to the list despite recriminations from Washington.
Most Muslim nations consider Hezbollah - which battled Israeli forces during Israel's 18-year occupation of southern Lebanon - a legitimate national liberation movement. Russia too has refused to include either Hamas or Hezbollah on its list of terrorist organizations.
