Within 48 hours, it was apparent Israel was exploiting Hezbollah's attack to execute a preconceived military plan to destroy Lebanon i.e, the collective punishment of a people and nation for the crimes of a renegade militia they could not control. It was the moral equivalent of a municipal police going berserk, shooting, killing and ravaging an African-American community because Black Panthers had ambushed and killed cops.
If Israel is not in violation of the principle of proportionality, by which Christians are to judge the conduct of a just war, what can that term mean? There are 600 civilian dead in Lebanon, 19 in Israel, a ratio of 30-1 though Hezbollah is firing unguided rockets, while Israel is using precision-guided munitions.
Thousands of Lebanese civilians are injured. Perhaps 800,000 are homeless.
Yet, whatever one thinks of the morality of what Israel is doing, the stupidity is paralyzing. Instead of maintaining the moral and political high ground it had when even Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Jordan were condemning Hezbollah and privately hoping Israel would inflict a humiliating defeat on Nasrallah Israel launched an air war on an innocent people. Now, 87 percent of Lebanese back Hezbollah, and the entire Arab and Islamic world, Shia and Sunni alike, is rallying behind Nasrallah.
...
For two weeks, Bush seemed unable to find a word of criticism for what our friends in Israel were doing to our friends in Lebanon. He publicly sent more bombs to Israel. He and Condi emphasized that America did not want a cease-fire yet.
...
Rubbing our noses in our own cravenness, "Bibi" Netanyahu took time out, a week ago, from his daily appearances on American television denouncing terrorism to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the terror attack on the King David Hotel by Menachem Begin's Irgun, an attack that killed 92 people, among them British nurses.
This was not a terrorist act, Bibi explained, because Irgun telephoned a 15-minute warning to the hotel before the bombs went off. Right. And those children in that basement in Qana should not have ignored the Israeli leaflets warning them to clear out of southern Lebanon.

Do you sit at home, thinking, "Those fools...!"
Or what?
Does argeeing with the great Buchanan give you some succor? Some feeling that you can see what others can't, or won't?

Sorry, I find this more than a little disingenuous. And I respect Buchanan generally (except his economics).

Pat is also a big fan of Cindy Sheehan's.
He's officially a leftist.

Pat thinks we should have sat out WWII, at least the European part. Really.

Pat, like his pagan spiritmates in western Europe, is fantasizing about exterminating all of the Jews by giving up as many of their terrorist friends. Even the Arab/Persian nationalists would be willing to lose as many of their own in order to do so.

BTW, notice that Pat's piece is published by WorldNetDaily. The owner/editor, Joseph Farah, is a Catholic from a Lebanese family.

Thanks for the ping, BTW. Pat's WorldNetDaily piece made a good addition to my FR page (below). My intention is not to accuse all people of a religion of behaving like Pat and his editor but rather to encourage the better majority to bluntly, honestly and publicly denounce them as being what they are. ...the only way to solve problems like that, IMO.
And here's one from a couple of religious identity partners of Hezbollah (Pat Buchanan and his editor).

Farah has been very critical of Buchanan's position on the middle east. I won't be surprised to see a response to this one.

Patrick J. Buchanan is Mel Gibson without the acting talent!
This is utter garbage!
Was Qana Staged? Cont'd [Jonah Goldberg]
A giant banner denouncing Rice and the "Qana massacre" might have been made a bit too quickly.
I don't want to get too far out ahead on this, but I know we've got a zillion printer-type folks among our readers. Do you guys think such a banner could be made in 2-4 hours (particularly in a supposedly war-ravaged area)?
Update: From a reader:
"Do you guys think such a banner could be made in 2-4 hours (particularly in a supposedly war-ravaged area)?"
Heck no. A designer could throw it together in probably 15 minutes or so, but the longest part would be the printing. Notice how deep the reds and blacks are - this means they didn't just bust it out. I wouldn't be surprised if that job itself (requiring special equipment, as it looks to be printed on canvas or nylon, not merely paper) took 6 hours simply to print.
Also, that puppy would be expensive.
Update II: From a reader:
Nope. Not possible in 2 hours to design, typeset, print, assemble and transport to the site. 24 hours if you're really good to do all the above. I say that as an career commercial artist of 18 years now.
Update III: From another reader:
called a close friend who has a very large printing company in NY with the question. he called out to one of his technicians as to how long a color 30 foot banner would take to produce. the response was that it would have to be done by a special machine and that machine would take "5 to 6 hours." by the way, their rather enormous, state of the art (less than 6 months old) facility doesn't even have the equipment necessary to do it. so make a guess as to what's available in a war-ravaged area...

>>>>"If Israel is not in violation of the principle of proportionality, by which Christians are to judge the conduct of a just war..."
1) Is Israel a Christian nation? If Pat answers 'Yes', he wins the One Step Slower Than Paul Craig Roberts Medallion.
2) If an enemy intentionally fires rockets at your women and children and rides it's troops back and forth to the battlefield in an ambulance with sirens wailing, and, oh by the way, they are Muslim, so they aren't overwhelmingly bound to Christian principals either, why are we hearing this morally offensive crap?
Probably, because PJB is a morally offensive jerk, but I'd fascinated to hear what his lackeys have to say for him.
3) Is General Sherman burning in hell right now for the disproportionate manner in which he liberated African Americans from slavery during the Civil War down in Georgia?
A similar question could be asked of the pilot of Enola Gay....
But then again, I'm pretty sure PJB would like us to be nicer to fascists for reasons that are more practical and closer to home...

I wonder what Pat an dhis proportinality think of this: # of US civilians killed by the German in WW2-0
# of German civilians killed by the US and Britain in WW2-More than 1,000,000
Oh, he thinks the US was wrong to fight World War II.
