Wow, some of these posts, including yours, are incredibly severe. I am not in any way excusing Mr. Gibson, but it is no surprise that he has dark places in his nature and upbringing as do all of mankind. Here's a passage from John that might need consideration in this discussion:

7 But when they continued asking him, he looked up and said to them, "He who is without sin among you, let him throw the first stone at her."

8 Again he stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground.

9 They, when they heard it, being convicted by their conscience, went out one by one, beginning from the oldest, even to the last. Jesus was left alone with the woman where she was, in the middle.

I also know from my own experience that when you are actively involved in what the Lord has called you to do, and particularly when the task is completed, you are at your most vulnerable.

From 1st Peter:
8 Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

Mel Gibson made a massive, stupid error in judgement and he has a very wrong attitude toward the Jewish people (who are the apple of God's eye). He took a lot of flack from the more liberal Jewish organizations over the Passion of the Christ, Abe Foxman was one, which may have magnified the attitudes he was taught by his dad.

He has done both good and bad things in his life, as have you and I. We are all under condemnation for our thoughts and actions. If he repents(as he apparently did), he needs the same mercy and forgiveness that we need, from one another and from the Lord.

Blessings,

If I were for some reason to take a drink today, I'd wind up as drunk if not drunker than Mel Gibson, and if I were still alive, and someone were to just mention the word "Katrina" in my presence, they'd probably get a similar earful from me as what MG said about Jewish people.

The deputy who arrested him (Mee), who is Jewish, has been on TV several times today and says it was just drunk talk. He said he wishes he could lock himself in a room for a month and come back out and it would all be gone. I tend to agree.
