DAMASCUS (Reuters) - Syrian President Bashar al-Assad told the Syrian military on Monday to raise its readiness, pledging not to abandon support for Lebanese resistance against Israel.
"We are facing international circumstances and regional challenges that require caution, alert, readiness and preparedness," Assad said.
"The barbaric war of annihilation the Israeli aggression is waging on our people in Lebanon and Palestine is increasing in ferocity," Assad said in a written address on the occasion of the 61st anniversary of the foundation of the Syria Arab Army.
Hope is the weakest virtue, but we hope they can keep a lid on it.
They might make the UN reeeeal mad!!! Squawk!!!
i believe in the scriptures of the end times, damascus is leveled and uninhabitable for just about that... i am not sure of the reference... i'll have to look it up... not in revelations... though...
ugh... my mind is as blank as syria's war hero medal cases...
teeman
I really do not think so. Doctor Herman Kahn wrote a book called "On Escalation" on how simple skirmishes can escalate quickly to a localized or global nuclear war. This is following that pattern to a regional nuclear war.
"Lebanese" resistance? Gimme a break.
This is an answer to my prayers.
Go for it, Bashar, please. Make my day.
The Books of Ezkiel and Daniel have end time references.
If Russia and the US can stay out, and France come to think of it, it need not go global. That would be a bad day.
Some dates by the crystal ball gazers are being thrown around. 3 Aug, 11 Aug, 22 Aug. They think Jerusalem will get some even though 'experts' imagine Jerusalem would definitely not. That's this week, isn't it.
Yes
All I can predict is some pretty bad things are coming soon.
I'm cheering for Israel to teach the world about "consequences" . . . and for the rest of the civilized world to take their cues from Israel.
***If Israel used nukes they'd face (oh no!) the wrath of the UN***.
The UN! NOT the UN! Oh MY, they might . . . bring SANCTIONS against them . . . or make them sit in the corner . . . or . . . (gasp) make them go to bed WITHOUT DESSERT!
ha ha ha! Excellent - save that for their new travel brochure ;-)
You explained it yourself.
The first post stays, the later duplicate gets the ax.
What do they base those dates on? I've read references that some terror groups place significance on the number "11"; if the date IS the 11th (9/11/01), or the numbers add up to "11" (August 3 = 8/3--8+3=11). . . but then they did some weird calculations with subtracting some of the numbers, adding others, to get "11" and it sounded kind of corny.
I'm pinging Southack, as he has had some good comments on these types of matters, as does RightWhale.
It seems to me that any signs of weakness by the Arab/Persian parties either directly or tangentially involved in this war will be seen (and exploited) by Islamic radicals. To that end, I believe players like Assad CAN'T show weakness or risk a significant balance of power shifting within their own country/areas of control and influence.
The above is my concern - that parties such as Assad or Hezbo, etc can't back down or they will fall out of favor with those that provide them support. That can lead to posturing, tough talk and some wrong - very wrong decisions, which can have unfortunate results.
