DAMASCUS (Reuters) - Syrian President Bashar al-Assad told the Syrian military on Monday to raise its readiness, pledging not to abandon support for Lebanese resistance against Israel.
"We are facing international circumstances and regional challenges that require caution, alert, readiness and preparedness," Assad said.
"The barbaric war of annihilation the Israeli aggression is waging on our people in Lebanon and Palestine is increasing in ferocity," Assad said in a written address on the occasion of the 61st anniversary of the foundation of the Syria Arab Army.

Remember, the IAF is presently engaged in attacks in Lebanon and Gaza. That leaves the Israeli Army to use their tactical nuclear weapons against a massive Syrian force. They will be razed to the ground in millisecnds.

There is a strong chance tactical nuclear weapons might be used. The Israelis came close to using nuclear weapons during the 1973 war.

The Syrians might use chemical weapons against Israeli troops and if that happens Israel will have no choice to use nuclear weapons

If they are in trouble and nothing else will do, they will use them. And then, if Israel is overrun, which could happen, the last Israeli left would push the big red button and the whole thing will go up in flames. But, they won't use them unless they are forced to since there is a chance the war could end [permanent peace, etc.] with most still alive and they would want to be able to live with peaceable neighbors afterwards.

Yes, it would be a blunder to try to use the chemical shells they got from Saddam.

If Israel used nukes they'd face (oh no!) the wrath of the UN.

I agree, Israel will only use nuclaer weapons if chemical weapons or other WMDs are used,WMDs its against population centers or when their back is against the wall. But the way things are shaping up now that there will be a rapid expansion of the war there is a chance of nuclear weapons will be used.

Remember, supposedly Syria stashed Saddams chemical weapons in the Bekaa Valley. There is a possibility that Hezbollah has access to these weapons. If Hezbollah uses chemical weapons(that were originally from Syria) Damascus will he uninhabitable for 93,000 years.

a chance of nuclear weapons will be used Well, it wouldn't be the first time historically. In fact hundreds of these devices have been fired off. Maybe thousands in testing and high-marking. Probably everyone on earth expects this used in anger again at some time and if it doesn't happen that would be the miracle.

I guess that it will be used in anger quite soon and on world wide television.

there will be a rapid expansion Yes, the goal would be, initially, to try to destroy the rest of the enemy's nuke capability. If the Hizba rocket example is any guide, this effort will fail and then it would become a desperate finale.

I do not doubt as I am chatting to you, all of Israels nuclear capability is on a heightened state of alert. Comments from Assad cause a rise in tensions and a higher state of alert.

That is what they said a couple decades ago: 'The start of this one will be broadcast live on TV. The ending won't be broadcast.' Maybe something Heinlein said.
