Although the Chevy Corvair is only tangent to this piece I would like to point out that the Corvair was inherently safe as sold by Chevrolet ... I owned a 1964 Corvair Monza and have a great deal of experience with these cars... what Nader did was typical of ambulance chasers ,, he totaly absolved the real culprits ... You see the Corvairs swing axles were held within a reasonable range of motion by shock absorbers with INTERNAL LIMITING DEVICES (or in the case of the turbocharged Corvairs where Chevrolet knew most owners would use shocks without internal limiters such as Koni , Sachs and Bilstein ,, Chevrolet literally chained the axles to limit movement)...

The Corvairs that had those terrible rollover accidents due to axle jacking were ALL cars that had the shocks replaced... you see 1955-1957 Chevy "BIG CAR" shocks were physically (externally at least) the same and many shops would install those as replacements because they had them on hand...

Nader would never have sued VW , Mercedes Benz or Porsche which all used the same axle setup ,, most of the time without any safety features ... all his dope smoking lice infested hippie friends drove VW's ...

In my mind, this is a perversion of representative government. It is supposed to do the will of the people, NOT tell us what we may do.
