Well said.
While I don't agree with the tone of this column, I must admit my estimation of Gibson has dropped several notches. Driving drunk and making anti-Semitic remarks do not endear him to me.
His father is a raving lunatic anti Semite.
Some may charge that my opinion is colored by by religion, but I don't believe a child grows up psychologically healthy in the home of a raving lunatic anti Semite.
Maybe some can overcome that disadvantage. Not here obviously.
He hates Gibson because Mel doesn't have to get up in the morning and go to work. Gibson might drink too much but he sure makes great films.
and my son owns a copy!
Not at all.
Please see post 218.
I don't know if it's been mentioned, but did you see where FREE REPUBLIC is mentioned on page 27 of today's "Daily Variety?"
"...reaction in the popular conservative online forum FreeRepublic.com..."
Maybe so. But erroneous, nonetheless.
Oh, shut up. You sound just like Christopher Hitchens.
There have been morer slanders printed about this remarkable woman than any other modern religious figure.
But her being a saint--that goes with the territory. There's not a saint in the Canon who was not vilified by the jealous and the envious whilst they trod this earth.
I thought Braveheart was quite a good movie including both his acting and directing.
Mel's acting in Gallipoli and The Year of Living Dangerously (admittedly older movies) prove that he is quite capable of being a good actor in the right vehicle. Also liked him in Ransom, Conspiracy Theory, The Man without a Face, and Signs.
Actually, there was outrage over Sharpton and Jackson.
I don't think alcohol is a truth serum and certainly drunks stay stupid crap they don't mean.
But it's clear to me that Mel has issues with Jews from what he said, if those quotes are true. Those things can't possibly be said completely spotaneously with no internal basis.
Didn't you read the interview in which he said "My father never lied to me"? He could have said "My father is a great dad but he hs some nutty ideas" but he didn't say that. Something is wrong here. I suspect he believes that Judaism is worthy of contempt, and are no longer G-d's chosen people. I have also read that he does not recognize the Pope.
It`s true, liberals say stuff everyday 1000 times more bias than this, and while sober no less, and it`s all passed over. I would be very interested to hear what the ADL said when former democratic Presidential candidate Jesse Jackson called New York city "Hymie Town" or when former democratic Presidential candidate Al Sharpton called Jews "leeches".
I disagree.
One does not have to believe something to say it, particularly when drunk.
Before I brand him with the "anti-Semite" badge, I need more evidence than this.
"Following the last series of votes on Wednesday evening, I returned to my home on Capitol Hill and took the prescribed amount of Phenergan and Ambien," Some time around 2:45 a.m., I drove the few blocks to the Capitol Complex believing I needed to vote. Apparently, I was disoriented from the medication." "At no time before the incident did I consume any alcohol." At the time of the accident, I was instructed to park my car and was driven home by the United States Capitol Police. At no time did I ask for any special consideration, I simply complied with what the officers asked me to do." "I have the utmost respect for the United States Capitol Police and the job they do to keep Members of Congress and the Capitol Complex safe. "I have contacted the Chief of Capitol Police and offered to meet with police representatives at their earliest convenience as I intend to cooperate fully with any investigation they choose to undertake."
I thought the Patriot was awful. And Braveheart was a long torture film. Gibson hs a "crucifixion" complex and sees himself as the guy on the cross. Same thing in Lethal Weapon - the long torture scene.
Its solid evidence that you had an issue with communist in 1983. Can you think of an instance where an angry drunk insulted someone with a disparaging label that he later felt was a benevolent or neutral term when sober?
It's solid evidence ONLY that I said stupid crap that I didn't mean while I was drunk.
