Mel Gibson apologizes for DUI arrest
LOS ANGELES - Mel Gibson issued a lengthy statement Saturday apologizing for his drunk driving arrest and saying he has battled alcoholism throughout his life.
Gibson also apologized for what he said were "despicable" statements he made to the deputies who arrested him early Friday morning on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu.
"I acted like a person completely out of control when I was arrested," he said in a statement issued by his publicist. "I disgraced myself and my family with my behavior and for that I am truly sorry. I have battled with the disease of alcoholism for all of my adult life and profoundly regret my horrific relapse."
Publicist Alan Nierob declined to elaborate beyond the statement.
Gibson, 50, was arrested for investigation of driving under the influence of alcohol after deputies stopped his 2006 Lexus LS 430 for speeding. Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore said deputies clocked him doing 87 mph in a 45 mph zone.
A breath test indicated Gibson's blood-alcohol level was 0.12 percent, Whitmore said. The legal limit in California is 0.08 percent.
The actor was released early Friday after posting $5,000 bail.
---I've met many people of substantial education and accomplishment, who have made the most outrageous comments about Jews...---
Now it's become fashionable to substitute Zionist for Jew. Mel must not have gotten the memo.
Pleasant comment by you, appreciated.
Let's just say that starting this week, he's getting a regular column slot on LewRockwell.com
Alcohol affects each one of us differently and at different rates and in different amounts. There are no hard and fast rules with which to detrmine how any one person might be impaired at .12, .08 or .02.
To everyone else: the mainstream meaning behind "alcoholism is a disease" mantra is *not* that it literally is a disease but that its clinical diagnosis and treatment is simialr to the process of diseases. But no one, except the truly wacko, believes alcoholics are to be socially and legally treated the same as those with a 'real' disease...i.e. a pathology with a 'no choice' basis
That is the physical side as opposed to the mental side. At least you didn't undergo that horrible vertigo reaction. Oh the horror.
'0.12 is legally impaired by law'
Nope. Try 0.08 Which means don't have 2 beers with your burger and side dish.
Nothing surprises me anymore and I certainly understand the migration to Israel by jewish people from France and the US lately.
Who knows? Some things just aren't forgivable. Should he wear a scarlet A or a scarlet A-S?
I can't believe some of the anti-Semitic garbage getting spewed in public these days and its frightening.
Abraham wasn't kidding when he wrote that God would "bless those who bless and curse those who curse" (bad paraphrase on my part).
Take heart. There are still many Christians who stand beside Israel and her people, and it's got nothing to do with prophecy.
Don't know if that's the case or not, but it does fit. My liberal fishing buddy is constantly talking about Bush's "neocons."

I agree alcohol does indeed hit people differently, but a person battling with alcohol for many years, as he claims to be, is not out of THAT out of control at .12...That I refuse to believe.
For his weight/size .12 is probably 6 beers in a two hour time frame...
Uh, no. It's a disease.
I'm in the same boat...I don't look Jewish in the conventional way and I've never had a Jewish name. The things people say is astounding. This year, especially, I have felt more fear for the future than ever before. And that's why what he said was so terrible. He is an INTERNATIONAL celebrity and this will be printed everywhere. He's just as responsible for what he says as the Dixie Chicks are. And IMO, what he said was far more damaging than what they said. To say I'm disappointed would be an understatement. Unlike many of my friends and relatives..I defended him against the accusations that he was anti-semetic and that THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST was his vehicle to display it. But now ALL those critics are sitting and having their I TOLD YOU SO moment. And everyone who praised Gibson for that should be disappointed as well.
I am Swedish-Norwegian, but my last name sounds very Jewish. I can't remember the last time I personally heard an anti-Semetic remark. :^)
That is one of the most mis-used verses. We all make judgements on people all day long, time and time again. Example: Your child wants to hang out with kids that you know are dopers. You judge them as "bad" and tell your child, "You are not hanging out with those kids, they are not good,..." Some "sleasy" looking guy comes to your house and wants to take your daughter out on a date. You "judge" him and tell your daughter, "You are NOT going on a date with that boy. He is not a 'good' boy". And on and on...

You said: 'Nope. Try 0.08'
Now, why would you say 'nope,' since .12 is definitely legally impaired by law, being above .08?
True. During my youthful days, I could swig down a bunch of Vodka + Grapefruits in an hour, hit that level, and you would barely be able to tell I was drinking.
Possibly. I was just referring to his disgusting behavior in general.
