Mel Gibson apologizes for DUI arrest
LOS ANGELES - Mel Gibson issued a lengthy statement Saturday apologizing for his drunk driving arrest and saying he has battled alcoholism throughout his life.
Gibson also apologized for what he said were "despicable" statements he made to the deputies who arrested him early Friday morning on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu.
"I acted like a person completely out of control when I was arrested," he said in a statement issued by his publicist. "I disgraced myself and my family with my behavior and for that I am truly sorry. I have battled with the disease of alcoholism for all of my adult life and profoundly regret my horrific relapse."
Publicist Alan Nierob declined to elaborate beyond the statement.
Gibson, 50, was arrested for investigation of driving under the influence of alcohol after deputies stopped his 2006 Lexus LS 430 for speeding. Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore said deputies clocked him doing 87 mph in a 45 mph zone.
A breath test indicated Gibson's blood-alcohol level was 0.12 percent, Whitmore said. The legal limit in California is 0.08 percent.
The actor was released early Friday after posting $5,000 bail.
Just insults. Not persuasive.
I hear ya. :-)
I'm not the least bit interested in trying to "persuade" you of anything.
After eight years on this site, I've learned that some of you are irrationally unreachable.
>>>I called YOUR stupid, incorrect DECLARATIVE STATEMENT of what a neo-con is, damned dead wrong.<<<
Is that your opinion? How is it "wrong' spell it out if you can.
>>>When called out, you now claim that it is "just your opinion"<<<
You are making stuff up now. I never claimed anything was "just my opinion". Flat out untruth on your part.
I'm quite rationale and "reachable".
I just don't accept BS.
You've been accepting it for years from Pat Buchanan.
Actually, in this context, the polite phrase "mean-spirited" usually substitutes for "bloody-well psychotic."
I'm picking up on that.
Thank you for an excellent post, Aloha Ronnie!
God Bless You!
I think you are right. His father said similar things, and for some reason, that is germane. I don't agree with most of my relatives. The fact remains that he unleashed his hostilities and really destroyed his credibility. I admire his apology, but that will not change his public image. It's sad.
I am not Jewish. I am surprised at how people say similar things while cold sober.
When I teach about Judaism I have people look up famous Jewish leaders (not just media celebs). They are always impressed.
May I just add:
Sometimes people lash out at others who they deeply but unconsciously want to love and respect them. They (Mel in this case) strike out (especially "under the influence") nastily because they are frustrated that they cannot find or create this harmony between the parties.
I just have a feeling that Mel would like to have some of that respect and love from some Jews who he feels (and knows) have come out in the recent past to injure him (during the "Passion" event).
I think he's a very idealistic guy, and it kills him that the world seems to be in very deep trouble. He's obviously given it all a lot of thought. He wishes all could be well or at least better.
Let's all try to understand a guy who sees evil here and there and wants it to die. He surely went overboard the other night. From what I read, he was wrong in many ways.
But I think I know from where he was coming. He just wants to help save this endangered world. He's 50 years old and is still sorting things out. He needs more time. He's not a bad guy.
Obviously his father is a bad influence on him in some ways. You all know about that. But Mel has a good heart........... please give him a chance. He is close to the powerful media folks in our society. He knows pretty well who is influencing opinion and also political international action.
To paraphrase FReeper, "Arrowhead", he has been close to" the warring factions within Jewry ................ media moguls who literally control the content of the sound-bite generation and the aggrandizement of "jews" and the destruction of Christian foundations in the movie making industry."
Mel just wants that destruction to end and the world to be healthier. He's severely frustrated, I think, that he cannot influence those who tried to injure and bury him during and after the "The Passion". He just went over the edge the other night. All of us please, let's give him some time. He'll be a good influence in the end.
****
(Just my opinion) ........ sorry this is not a work of art. I have hurried through it a bit.........gotta get out of here and into the nursery with the plants (they have no political opinions) ;-).
I'm aware you are repeatedly warning others that when talking about another FReeper, FReeper etiquette says one is supposed to ping them. What's up with this?
He's not just another celebrity, he's one I stuck my neck out for last year.
Don't stick your neck out for celebrities you don't really know. Stick your neck out for friends, relatives, co-workers, and even that weird guy in town who eats soup from his shoe and named his nose William Henry Harrison -- but don't put yourself out for celebrities. You don't know them. They don't know you.
good advice...
.... hey, that's my uncle Chester.
;-)
:-)
After eights years of failure one might well wonder why you persist in being irrational in your attempts to reach them.
Just what are you smoking?
brilliant...... keep it up.
The haters and crazies are always here, just waiting for an opportunity to spew their sickenss.
