Ok but we are not told if that tax has been paid. I haven't won a "life's lottery" so does one have to pay up front with acceptance of the winning?
What I don't understand is why there is NO job required someplace even if it is sweeping floors at the local school to teach these people the value of what it is to earn money, even if it is a government hand out.
Then again she would probably need a 'union' card to get that job.
Someone must watch those children and interestingly some people do get to claim 'daycare' as an expense.

The way it works is, at the end of the year the company you won the prize from sends you a "1099" and you pay taxes on it when you submit your income tax return.

I forgot to mention, you can contest the value of the prize as the price is usually inflated.

"What I don't understand is why there is NO job required someplace even if it is sweeping floors at the local school to teach these people the value of what it is to earn money, even if it is a government hand out." I believe it may have been right here in St. Louis where it was proposed that those receiving public housing should have to work so many hours a week cleaning up their own property.
It was called "racist" and akin to slavery.
