Stephanie Drinkard is a single stay-at-home mom with two little girls. She moved back to Nacogdoches a month ago from Louisiana. There, she was on Section 8 housing, food stamps, and Medicaid, but she can't get that help in Texas because of a contest she won back in October.

"I went online and entered," said Drinkard. "I didn't know I was gonna win it. Only like two people won - it was me and somebody else - but it's a 2006 Limited Edition Toyota Avalon and it's like a $40,000 car."

And $40,000 exceeds the limit the

Im sorry to hear about the diabetes.

I often make large salads with meat that are cheap too.
You can make a mighty tastey seafood salad with that artificial crab. Tuna is always good with a salad and a ceasar dressing.

Thinly sliced beef(on sale of course) is mighty good on a salad dressed with balsamic dressing(I put hot chili in it)

How on earth is she going to pay the income taxes on her prize?

I watched part of the video until I was about to barf.
No doubt her tattoo budget has not suffered.
Being a "stay-at-home" mom should not even be an option for these welfare queens. The mindset is absolutely unbelievable.

Another case of sloppy reporting.
How old is "single mom with two little girls"?
How old are the little girls? Where and
with WHOM is she living NOW? WHY did she
move back to Texas? Better yet, WHY did
she leave Texas in the first place? Very
little info is proffered here.

"Single" implies she NEVER married the
father/s of these kids, which in essence
makes her the neighborhood Punch-board
Annie and leaves any lawyer she might
acquire with no case to go after re
child support. Then there's the cute
statement, "I went online and entered the
contest." She owns a computer? I'll bet
any money she also has a cell phone.
IMO, she indeed must have a $40k car to
tool around in. "But HEY! The state
should take care of me and my kids!"

Save me and mine from the Welfare State!

Raman noodles can be a great side dish as well. Drain all of the water and simply mix the seasoning packet in. Add whatever leftovers you have and you have a tasty filling meal, for really cheap as well.

Not being on welfare and having a paycheck that varies, raman noodles have carried me through several times.

It's amazing how cheaply you can eat well, if you use your imagination a little.

As for rice, what is wrong with it? Raised in Florida back in the 50's, we often ate rice. In fact, I still prefer it to potatoes. Chili over rice is one of my favorites and also cheap to prepare.

She's also gonna be extra p*$$ed when the IRS comes after her for $10,000 in taxes on her 'income' of $40,000. Just like those Oprah studio fans found when she 'gave' them all new cars a year ago.

Then there's the sales tax, BIG insurance, etc...

One really has to be wealthy to afford to win "free" stuff

If she sells that car won't that be considered "income" and she will be required to pay "income" taxes.

I may be wrong but I believe the win of the car is considered income and she'll have to pay income taxes on it.
Also Texas has a very low vehicle registration fee so that's not a problem.

I am actually working with her right now on a deal for premium wheels for her Avalon. She really liked the deluxe spinner set. She has committed to buy the wheels by giving me her food stamps each month for 10 years. Good deal for her and me. We're all happy campers

Imagination seems to be the missing "ingredient" in this womans life

Ok but we are not told if that tax has been paid. I haven't won a "life's lottery" so does one have to pay up front with acceptance of the winning?

I have won several prizes. The way it works is, at the end of the year the company you won the prize from sends you a "1099" and you pay taxes on it when you submit your income tax return.

Yes, I am glad she found some spare bucks for car magnets and "Baby on board" signs. An earlier poster was probably right - the car's already too trashed to get out of it the decent price she could have by not using it and selling it. What did she use for transportation before that? Maybe she had a decent used car and gave it to somebody else on the dole??

I forgot to mention, you can contest the value of the prize as the price is usually inflated.

She seems to have NO CLUE that she could do that!

The car is probably trashed by now and smelling like cigarettes. Yes, I know that is judgemental of me, but it is probably a true statement.

"I either have to sell the car and not have any transportation or just live off what we're living off of, which is like rice, basically, we have rice."

Sell the $40k car, buy a $12k Kia, and put the rest into downpayment on a two family home. The rent from the second unit pays (most of) your mortgage and taxes. Then sign up for training in a marketable skill, so you can earn your way out of poverty.
