He does appear to be making restitution, but my point is that I just dont' see the reason for such an uproar. I personally think that this all stems from the furor in the aftermath of "Passion of Christ" and, because of all that negativity, and because of the topical nature of Israel in the news, combining that in an already volitile guy with an axe to grind against his detractors...adding few adult beverages just threw him out of whack.
I mean, he says something about jews "being involved in every war" or something, and then feels the need to ask the lead cop if he's jewish or not. Gibson wasn't thinking clearly on more than one level.
Given the "news" reports of him throwing an antisemitical tantrum, I expected a long stream of obscenities akin to some of those attributed to the Clintons during thier eight years in the White House. But instead, Gibson just sounds like a drunk idiot.
Big deal.
Plus, reporting that Mel Gibson has an "antisemitical tirade" and then not ever saying what it was he said is pretty worthless journalism, if it can even be called journalism. Tossing out the lable "antisemite" is like being equally careleess with the word "racist".
I guess ultimately what I'm saying that I'd rather see is that the TV and radio need to leave it alone until all is proven, one way or the other. From what I've seen, the comments made were offensive to more than just jewish people, but that seems to be all we're hearing about, and that is most likely due to the the conflict in Isreal and Lebanon.
